Art Offerings on Tap Range from Straw Mosaics and
Dreamcatcher Workshops to Gallery Walks & More
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (August 27, 2018) — After the success of the weekly wine and paint night at Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta, Velas Resorts is rolling out new spirited art activities at each of its hotels. The AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Los Cabos recently started offering a painting class led by Hugo Aguilar, a local artist part of the group Cabo 8 from the art district of San Jose del Cabo with more than 18 years of experience in different disciplines of the visual arts (painting, sculpture, drawing and design). Later this year, Grand Velas Riviera Maya will also begin offering painting instruction for adults-only. Adding a little extra spirit, the workshops will be complemented by wine, champagne, cocktails and gourmet bites.
Earlier this year, Velas Vallarta launched Straw Mosaic workshops for guests to learn the prehispanic technique of Arte en Popotillo. Originally used to adorn temples, houses, and schools, among others, the art is made by spreading a thin layer of beeswax from Campeche, a Mexican state on the Yucatán Peninsula, on a surface and then placing dyed popotillo in a pattern using one’s fingernail to get the desired length. Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit also introduces guests to Mexico’s history with workshops on the 2,000- year-old tradition of weaving dreamcatchers. Participants learn about the meaning and history of dreamcatchers and then how to create their own. The handicraft is traditionally made with willow wood wrapped in colored yarn and decorated with various objects, most commonly feathers. Known as the ‘Huichol Eye’ which means ‘The Eye of God’, this ancient craft process has been present for centuries amongst the native populations of the Coras and Huicholes in the Mexican Pacific states of Jalisco and Nayarit. In addition to the Creative Fusion of Art & Wine class led by Mexican artist León de la Vega at Casa Velas, the boutique hotel features a complimentary art gallery tour of downtown Puerto Vallarta that ends with a cocktail nightcap in a “hot” bar.
The spirited art series of workshops at Mexico’s Velas Resorts are included complimentary in the nightly rate for guests. For reservations or more information, call 1-888-407-4869, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit https://www.velasresorts.com.
